Toolsets

Every tool you add costs context and makes the right tool harder to pick. So Curviate groups its tools into toolsets and lists only the ones a client is likely to need. Anything else is one call away.

The toolsets

ToolsetWhat it covers

metalist_toolsets, enable_toolsets, explain_tools. Always on.

list_toolsets returns this list live, with each toolset's state and the tools inside it.

What a client sees by default

The default adapts to the client:

  • Coding clients that load tools on demand, such as Claude Code and Cursor, get every toolset except Sales Navigator and Recruiter.
  • Every other client, including Codex, Gemini CLI, ChatGPT and the Claude apps, gets a focused set: accounts, profile, following, companies, search, messaging, feed, posts, invites.
  • compatibility is on by default for ChatGPT only.
  • meta is always on, whatever else is set.

Sales Navigator and Recruiter toolsets are off by default only to keep the tool list small; any workspace can turn them on with enable_toolsets. They are not paid add-ons. Their tools answer only if the connected LinkedIn account has that LinkedIn product; otherwise the call returns LINKEDIN_FEATURE_NOT_SUBSCRIBED.

Changing the set

Tool or parameterWhat it does
list_toolsetsLists every toolset with its state (enabled, disabled, or always_on for meta), a one-line purpose, and its tool names.
enable_toolsetsTakes enable and disable arrays of toolset names. Saves the result for the workspace.
explain_toolsReturns guidance for named tools or a plain-language task, including tools in a disabled toolset, so an agent can decide before enabling. It takes no action.
?toolsets= on the URLhttps://app.curviate.com/mcp?toolsets=accounts,search,messaging pins that connection to exactly those toolsets (plus meta).

In practice you rarely do this by hand. Ask the agent ("turn on the Sales Navigator tools"), and it calls enable_toolsets.

The change persists per workspace. enable_toolsets saves the set, it survives reconnects, and from then on it replaces the client default for every client connected to the workspace. A ?toolsets= URL is read when the connection starts and overrides both the saved set and the default for that connection only; it saves nothing.

Calling a tool whose toolset is off returns TOOLSET_DISABLED, naming the toolset and pointing at enable_toolsets. After a change Curviate tells the client its tool list changed; a client that ignores that notice shows the new tools after it reconnects. See Troubleshooting.
